~ Character Info ~
Name:
Edel Elric (formerly Edward Elric, formerly Edenathene "Ed" Elric)

Age:
21

Gender:
Female

Appearance:
Approximately five-foot-three, with lightly-tanned skin, shoulder-length golden-blonde hair, and vivid gold eyes. Her right arm from shoulder down is made of automail, as is her left leg from the mid-thigh, and she wears flesh-toned "covers" over them to make them look a little more like normal limbs. She's compactly muscled, having less extra flesh on her than most girls would due to her active lifestyle, and her figure is slim and athletic.

Because of her slim hips and small breasts, it takes a second look to even register that she's female, as she wears men's clothing for added mobility and spent a good portion of her life back in Amestris as a Gate-changed boy, so she has a boy's mannerisms more than a girl's. Her clothing tends to run towards 1930s German, though she's quick to adopt something similar to the black leather pants and tight tanktops in red or black that she wore in Amestris both as a boy and after she was transmuted back to being female. She was equally quick to exchange the red hooded coat with the flamel symbol apliqued to the back for a fitted black trench coat, not wanting to stand out after being persecuted so harshly in Germany.

Although the automail covers do a decent enough job of concealing the steel of her metal limbs, Edel still wears gloves and sturdy, steel-toed boots to disguise the fact that she even has metal limbs. Similarly, she tends to disdain dresses and skirts as impractical unless the situation requires her to wear them, not even bothering with make-up or jewellery unless the (very rare) occasion calls for such adornments.

Personality:
Edel is very much a tomboy, and not just because she spent her life from age eleven to age sixteen as a boy. She's outgoing, outspoken, and has a very strong sense of what's wrong. Having a girl's mind, she's particularly analytical and looks for the subtleties, taking the more calculated route even during the five years in the military when she was a boy. Her natural confidence in herself and her abilities has made her a touch arrogant, but the backlash from trying to resurrect her mother and binding her sister's soul to a suit of armour has tempered that arrogance. Living in Post-WWI Germany for three years tempered it further, making her cautious and wary around people, especially people who look like the people she used to know.

Preference (Heterosexual, homosexual, bisexual):
Bisexual

Fandom:
Fullmetal Alchemist

History:
Edenathene Elric was the oldest daughter of Hoenhime and Trisha Elric, her sister Alvernice being her closest companion besides their friend and neighbour, Winry Rockbell. The three girls were inseperable, though Edenathene and Alvernice - or "Ed" and "Al" as they preferred to be called - were more noticeably tomboyish, keeping their hair cut short and wearing boys' clothes as opposed to Winry's long hair and dresses. What was the point in wearing skirts if you spend most of your time climbing trees and wrestling in the grass?

Much of their history remains unchanged from what is known, save that when Ed and Al made the attempt to resurrect their mother, the estrogen needed to make their homunculus was not enough... and so the Gate pulled what was needed from the girl who had lost her leg. As something must be exchanged, the estrogen was exchanged for testosterone and the talented alchemist girl was transmuted by the Gate into a boy. Having killed - or thought he killed - the abomination that was supposed to have been Trisha Elric, Ed went back to the Gate to retrieve his sister's soul, binding it to a suit of armor in trade for his right arm. Shaken from extensive alchemy and blood loss, Al carried her sister-turned-brother to the home of their friend Winry and her grandmother, Pinako Rockbell, to beg help.

When Ed, now called "Edward", went to Central with Al, now called "Alphonse" so as not to confuse people with why a girl "wore" such a masculine suit of armor, only Lieutenant Colonel Roy Mustang, who had stumbled upon the results of the successive transmutations that night, knew that "Edward and Alphonse Elric" had been born female, though the secret was discovered by Lieutenant Colonel Maes Hughes and his wife Gracia when their daughter Elysia was born, and by Lieutenant Jean Havoc when he and Ed began a tentative relationship after Ed's fifteenth birthday. Ed carried out his missions for the military with something almost approaching the appearance of recklessness, but he was never without a plan and several back-up plans, and more often than not things were much the better when he and his "brother" left to give their reports.

Many things snowballed during the year between Ed's fifteenth and sixteenth birthdays as plots came to a head and soon, Ed was killed by Envy, stabbed through the heart by his gloating half-brother. Al, the embodiment of the Philosopher's Stone, traded herself for Ed's complete return-- and it was granted, as Ed awoke to Rose looking at her in shock. After sending Rose back to the surface of the city, Edenathene made one final transmutation - the transmutation to exchange her perfect human body and soul for her sister's. True to form, the Gate drew her in... and spat her back out again in post World War I Germany at the feet of her father, Hoenhime Elric, minus her newly-regained human arm and leg.

Knowing that in this new world - if she ever wanted a change to get home to Amestris, her sister, and Jean - she would need to be cautious, Edenathene took on the less usual, German name "Edel" and set about studying what she could of anything and everything that could possibly get her home, sneaking in when the knowledge was denied her because of her sex, and frequently dressing in men's clothing as she found it far more comfortable than the "torture devices" women of the time wore. More than once, she was startled by the appearance of a familiar face, and it made her wary even as Hitler's Gestapo became more and more prominent, and more determined to find a way back to Amestris.
